TRENGGALEK - STKIP PGRI Trenggalek Teachers College and Education Science holding The STKIP PGRI Trenggalek Cup I Chess Tournament held on Sunday (4/1/2026).
This activity is the result of collaboration between STKIP PGRI Trenggalek and the Indonesian Chess Association (PERCASI) of Trenggalek Regency.
The tournament is open to participants from various regions in East Java.
"The STKIP PGRI Trenggalek Cup I chess tournament was born out of our collaboration with Percasi Trenggalek Regency, where this tournament is open, meaning that participants come from all over East Java."said Muhammad Soleh Fudin, Head of the Physical Education and Health Education Study Program at STKIP PGRI Trenggalek.
He explained that the tournament, which was held at the STKIP PGRI Trenggalek campus, was attended by around 250 participants.
The participants came from various age groups, ranging from elementary school to high school (SMA) /vocational school students (SMK).
The Tournament used the building Competition Facilities and special athlete development, especially Trenggalek.
Fudin, as he is familiarly known, said that more competitions will produce more accomplished athletes.
"The more competitions or tournaments there are, the more accomplished athletes will be produced," he said.
He believes that chess has a positive impact on character building, especially for children.
"Chess has a significant impact on character, as it trains sportsmanship, competitiveness, and emotional management, especially for elementary and junior high school students. This game does not only rely on physical strength, but also on deep thinking," he said.
Going forward, the university hopes that this tournament can continue and be developed with a wider scope.

In fact, STKIP does not rule out the possibility of holding other sports tournaments.
"Next year, based on discussions with Percasi, this tournament is planned to be expanded to the Java-Bali level so that competition will be even tighter and the quality of athletes will also improve," he concluded. (tra/c1/din)
